Ms. Rose and Karen face-off at the beginning of the shift.

The Shift Begins: Meeting Ms. Rose
It started like any other shift—except today, I was paired with Ms. Rose. Now, Ms. Rose isn’t just any CNA; she’s been working this hall since dinosaurs roamed the Earth, or so it seems. A sharp-tongued, no-nonsense woman in her late 50s or 60s, Ms. Rose ran that hall like a plantation overseer.
The first words out of her mouth were, “You ain’t one of the lazy ones, is ya?” I knew I was in for it. She bullied me out of my assigned spot faster than you can say, “seniority.”
Karen rolling her eyes as Ms. Rose insists on unnecessary help.

The First Encounter: The Shower Incident
Things were going fine until Ms. Rose barged into one of my residents’ rooms. I was preparing a shower when she demanded, “I need you to help me transfer someone. The family wants them up.”
I calmly replied, “I’ll be there when I’m done.”
She snapped back, “Naw, right now.”
But let me tell you, Ms. Rose wasn’t running me. I finished that shower and went to the room, only to find… no family in sight. The resident stood up, got into their wheelchair, and didn’t need a lick of help.
Karen finally losing it with Ms. Rose.

The Breaking Point: No Rest for the Weary
Finally, my work was done. I sat down for five minutes to rest my aching feet when Ms. Rose appeared like a storm cloud.
“What you think you doing? Ain’t no sitting down over here!” she barked.
At that moment, I saw red. I stood up, and let’s just say, Ms. Rose heard a few words that weren’t in the Bible. She stomped off, only to send the nurse to check me.

The Aftermath: Peace at Last
When the nurse came over, I gave her a piece of my mind too. By the end of the shift, Ms. Rose stayed in her lane, and I had a peaceful, drama-free rest of the day.
Sometimes you have to stand your ground—even if the whole nursing home seems like it’s against you.
