The Haunted Call Light

A cartoon of Karen, a young black CNA, staring at a flashing call light in an empty nursing home room with a nervous expression.

Part 1: The Haunted Call Light

It was a quiet shift—or at least as quiet as it could be in a nursing home. I had just finished answering Mrs. Thompson’s third request for a snack when it happened. The call light in Room 212 started flashing.

“Who’s in 212?” I asked the nurse.

She frowned. “Nobody. That room’s been empty for a week.”

A chill ran down my spine.

“Maybe it’s a wiring issue,” I said, trying to sound calm. But deep down, I was already imagining a ghostly resident pulling the cord from beyond.

The Investigation Begins

Part 2: The Investigation Begins

Armed with a flashlight and my dignity hanging by a thread, I entered Room 212.

“Hello? Anyone in here?” I whispered, shining the light around.

The bed was neatly made, the TV was off, and the air was still. But the call light kept flashing.

“Maybe it’s a prank,” I muttered. But who would prank me? Everyone else was too busy or too lazy.

The Unexpected Culprit

A cartoon of Mr. Bobby, an older black man, grinning mischievously from under the bed while holding the call light cord. Karen looks both relieved and annoyed.

Part 3: The Unexpected Culprit

Just as I was about to leave, I heard it—a faint rustling noise. My heart raced.

“Who’s there?” I demanded, clutching the flashlight like a weapon.

Out from under the bed popped Mr. Bobby, the resident known for his antics. He grinned at me, holding the call light cord like a trophy.

“Mr. Bobby, what are you doing here?” I exclaimed.

“Just checking if you’re paying attention,” he said with a wink.

The Aftermath

A cartoon of Karen walking Mr. Bobby back to his room, both laughing as the nurse watches with amusement.

Part 4: The Aftermath

I escorted Mr. Bobby back to his room, shaking my head the entire time.

“You can’t just go around scaring people like that!” I scolded him.

He shrugged. “Keeps you on your toes, doesn’t it?”

The nurse burst out laughing when I told her the story. “Well, at least it wasn’t a ghost,” she said.

“Honestly, a ghost might’ve been less trouble,” I replied.
