Part 1: Meet Mr. Bobby – The Great Escape Artist

Mr. Bobby was a sharp-dressed black man in his mid-70s, with a fedora he never took off and a cane that he didn’t really need. He had a smile that could charm a room and a way of talking that made you forget all about his mischievous streak—until you caught him in the act.

Mr. Bobby was notorious for trying to escape the nursing home. He wasn’t crazy—just tired of being cooped up. His favorite phrase? “I’ve got places to be, baby girl.”

On this particular day, Mr. Bobby decided he’d had enough. But unlike his usual hallway strolls, this time he had a plan.

Where’s Mr. Bobby?

Part 2: The Missing Resident Alert

I was in the middle of helping another resident when the nurse on duty came running down the hall. “Karen, have you seen Mr. Bobby? He’s not in his room!”

My stomach dropped. Mr. Bobby was gone.

We checked the dining room, the common area, even the bathroom. No sign of him. Then it hit me—Mr. Bobby loved the outdoors. I bolted toward the front door, praying he hadn’t made it too far.

Part 3: Found Him… On the Roof

I stepped outside, scanning the parking lot, but he wasn’t there. Just as I was about to head back inside, I heard a voice above me. “Hey there, baby girl!”

I looked up—and there was Mr. Bobby, standing on the roof, holding his cane like he was the king of the world.

“Mr. Bobby, what are you doing up there?” I yelled, trying not to laugh.

He grinned. “I told you, I’ve got places to be!”

The Rescue

Part 4: The Great Rescue

Getting Mr. Bobby down was no easy feat. The maintenance man had to grab a ladder while I tried to convince him to stay put.

“Mr. Bobby, please come down before you hurt yourself,” I pleaded.

“I’m fine, baby girl,” he said. “But if you bring me a Coke, I might think about it.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. Maintenance got him down safely, and as soon as his feet hit the ground, he tipped his fedora at me. “Thanks for the adventure, Karen.”

Peace Restored

Part 5: Back in His Room

Back in his room, Mr. Bobby sat in his chair, sipping his Coke like nothing had happened.

“You really scared me today,” I told him.

He smiled and said, “Karen, life’s no fun without a little excitement.”

I couldn’t argue with that. Mr. Bobby had a way of making every day memorable—even if it meant giving me a heart attack in the process.
